The parts are for sale. The proportion is not.
Nine names go on the label of a bottle of Golden Oil. Every one of them can be bought by itself, this afternoon, by anybody, from people you already trust. What cannot be bought anywhere, at any price, is how much of each one goes in.
A market for every line
Take the back of the bottle apart and price it out. Nobody here would rather you skipped that. Nine lines, nine markets, and every one of them open to you on the same terms it opens to us.
Nobody withholds that last line. No shop keeps it behind the counter and no supplier will quote a price on it, because it never was a substance. It is a decision, and decisions were never the thing this category learned how to sell.
You already pay for this everywhere else
A man who has run money for a living does not pay a manager for access. The securities are public and the ticker is the same one on his own screen. What he is paying for is the weighting: how much of each, held for how long, changed on what signal. Identical holdings, two different sets of weights, and a decade later they are two different outcomes. Nobody finds this strange. It is the most ordinary fee he pays.
He would not order cloth by the metre and expect a suit to arrive. He knows the mill, he could name the weave, and he pays a tailor anyway, for the eye rather than the material. He has eaten a plate where he could identify every single thing on it and still could not have produced it in his own kitchen.
Hair oil is the one category on earth where a buyer is invited to believe the ingredients are the product. They are the raw material. The raw material is the part with a market, and the part with a market is by definition the part anyone can have.
The reason the weighting is not a technicality: too much of the heavy oils and the blend is still sitting there at midnight, on a pillowcase, going nowhere. Too little of the one that resembles what the scalp already makes for itself and the whole thing sits on top of the skin instead of going into it. Neither of those is a failure of ingredients. Both bottles could print the same nine names on the back and behave nothing alike.
We do not print ours either
You are entitled to notice what just happened. We have spent this page telling you that the amounts are the entire product, and we have not shown you ours. That is correct, and it is going to stay correct.
Follow it through and you will get there on your own. Every one of the nine parts is already for sale by the ounce. Print the sheet and the last remaining thing anyone was paying for is for sale too, from the first person who reads it. There is no version of this where a blend gives away its own weights and continues to exist.
Which leaves a fair question about who carries the risk of that arrangement, and the honest answer is not that you take our word for it.
90 DAYS. IF IT DIDN'T WORK, THE MONEY COMES BACK. NOTHING GOES BACK TO US.
The surface reports first, and it reports to you rather than to us. More shine, more softness, better body: that runs on its own clock and lands inside four to six weeks, in a mirror, without anybody's permission. 90 days runs well past that. It leaves about six weeks of deciding after there is finally something to decide about.
"I've tried two other scalp oils before this one. The first made my pillowcase greasy by the second night. I quit that one fast, and I don't make that mistake twice. This one soaks in; my pillowcase is clean by morning."
James T., 61
Nothing in that sentence is a claim about which oils were in the first bottle. He never opened it up and compared lists, and he was never going to. That is what a proportion is like from the outside: not something you read on a label, something you notice on a pillowcase.
Two minutes, and nothing to learn
A couple of drops straight onto the scalp. Two or three minutes with the pads of the fingers, on damp hair after a shower, three to five times a week. It can sit for half an hour before a shampoo instead, or be left in daily, and men who fly most weeks tend to land there.
You are not being asked to learn a subject, audit a list, or take up a new interest at this stage of your life. The deciding has already been done and it is the thing inside the bottle. What you keep is the same head of hair you have now, behaving the way it behaves now, for longer.
That last part is measured in years, and the count runs whether or not anything is on the shelf. Keep it or spend it. The parts will still be for sale on Monday.
